Reuse old crayon bits to make new cute, chunky crayons. Great for little hands that are prone to break skinny crayons.
I won't get all OT and talk about grasp patterns here and how those tiny stumpy crayons are actually really good for development!
1. Gather an assortment of broken crayon bits
Tip: Don't mix different crayon brands. Rose art and Crayola don't mix! Must be different types of wax.
2. Peel off all the labels. Using a small razor may help, but watch those fingers! Break them into smaller pieces if not already.
3. Find a mold- I like using an old cupcake/muffin tin.
4. Melt the crayons in the oven. Watch them carefully. In a preheated over should take about 10-15 minutes, but different types of crayons vary.
5. Let the wax cool completely before popping them out. Try setting them in the freezer for a few minutes.
